Table of contents:
Are you new to online blackjack? Want to refresh your knowledge or maybe you're interested in the differences between online and offline play? Then take a seat and discover everything you need to know to hit our online blackjack tables.
Rules: getting started
Let's start with the basic rules and order of play. First of all, make sure you have a real-money account with a balance. You can create your casino.Com UK account by clicking here.
Once you're logged in and your account is funded, choose your online blackjack game variation, and then select one of the table limit options. Be sure to choose limits that you are comfortable with. You can also leave the table and select new limits that suit your style.
Making a bet
To stake your first bet, choose your chip size and place it on the table. You can place multiple chips to increase your bet. For example, setting 2 x £0.50 chips means your total bet will be £1.
Single-hand & multi-hand
Some tables are single-hand, which allows you to play using one hand. Multi-hand tables will enable you to sit at multiple seats and play more than one hand at once.
Order of play
Once you've placed your first bet and clicked or pressed DEAL, the game will begin.
- You'll be dealt two cards face up, and the dealer will be dealt two cards – one face up and one face down. (pay close attention to the face-up card, as it will help with your next decision).
- Now decide if you want to stand, hit, split, double down, or surrender.
- The dealer will take his turn last. He will hit on 16, and stand on 17-21.
- You will win when:
A. The total of your hand is higher than the dealers, but less than 21 or equal to 21.
B. Or if the dealer busts (holds more than 21) and you did not go over 21.
C. Blackjack – if your starting hand contains an ace and a 10-value card, congratulations you've got a blackjack and have won the round with a higher payout of 3:2. But be careful, the dealer can also deal ablackjack to himself.
Card values
Cards in online blackjack are worth their face value and all picture cards are worth 10. The only exception is the ace card, which can be worth 1 or 11.
So, a 4 card is worth 4 points, and a queen card is worth 10 points. If this is your blackjack hand, then you currently have 14 points in total.
Busting
If your total hand is over 21 points, then you'll automatically bust, and the round will be over but don't worry, you can't go bust on the very first deal. Only if you decide to hit (accept an extra card) can you go bust.
Hit or stand
- Hit - after you have received your two cards from the dealer, you can decide if you want to take another card – you can do so by pushing the hit button.
- Stand - if you want to keep only your current hand, press stand to end your turn.
Advanced options
You can do more than just hit or stand in online blackjack. If you want to master the game and reduce the house edge to its lowest, you'll need to learn all the advanced options as well.
- Split - if you're dealt a matching pair of cards, such as 2 x 5s or 2 x 10s, you can split them. Which means that you'll automatically make another matching bet, your cards will split apart, into two separate hands and you'll receive another card with each hand.
- Double down - if you think by drawing one more card, you'll be in a strong position, then you can use the double down. It will double your bet, and you'll receive one more card which will then end your turn.
- Surrender - use the surrender to forfeit your turn and receive half of your bet back. Sometimes it can be used after splitting.
- Insurance - if the dealer has an ace card showing, you'll have the option to take insurance. By choosing this option, you'll win if the dealer's 2nd card is a 10. It pays 2:1.
- Side bets - side bets allow you to place more wagers for the chance to gain extra wins even if you're blackjack hand doesn't beat the dealer.
- 21+ 3 - betting on the 21+3 side bet allows you to try and make a three-card poker hand by using your first two dealt cards and dealers face-up card.
- Perfect pair - to bet on a perfect pair, place your bet on the player's pair betting area just beneath each blackjack hand's individual betting spot. You can also bet on the dealer's pair.
- A perfect pair is when the first two cards dealt have the same number and suit, e.G. 2 x 6 of diamonds.
- Coloured pair is when the first two cards are matching their colour and number, such as a 5 of clubs and 5 of spades. Both cards are black.
- Red/black pair is when the first two cards have matching numbers, one is suited red, and one is suited, black.
Hand | pays |
winning hand | 1:1 |
insurance | 2:1 |
blackjack | 3:2 |
perfect pair | 25:1 |
coloured pair | 12:1 |
red/black pair | 6:1 |
suited three of a kind | 100:1 |
If you need help in-game, click the settings menu and then 'help' to find info about how to play, payouts and an explanation of the game interface.
Rule variations
- European blackjack - the dealer only receives the 2nd card after your turn has ended
- American blackjack - the dealer's 2nd card is accepted before your decision-making round begins
- Spanish 21 - all the 10 cards are removed, but not the face cards
- Switch - switch a card between two different hands
- Pontoon - getting a 5-card hand totaling 21 or less pays 2:1
- Double attack - double your bet after the dealer's face-up card is visible
Odds and payouts
Here's a quick tip to understanding the payout format - when you win a bet, you receive back your original stake plus an amount that's a multiple of your bet:
Winning hand | pays | £1 bet pays |
regular hand | 1:1 | £2 (£1 + £1) |
blackjack | 3:2 | £2.5 (£1.5 + £1) |
Basic strategies and tips
We mentioned how to use split, double and surrender, but now let's talk about the optimal situation to use each option.
Split - you don't want to split your cards recklessly in the hopes it will increase your odds, it won't. Be sure to use the table below to get the best chances to beat the dealer. If you're not sure when to use this option, then it's best to leave it alone.
Your hand | when to split vs the dealer |
2's, 3's | 4 through 7 |
4's, 5's, 10's | never |
6's | 3 through 6 |
7's | 2 through 7 |
8's | always |
9's | 2 through 6 and 8 or 9 |
ace's | always |
Double down - double your bet in return for just one card. As you'll see in the tables below, when to double down is heavily dependent if you have an ace in your hand.
Your hand | double if dealers face-up card is: |
9 | 3 to 6 |
10 | 2 to 9 |
11 | 2 to 10 |
your hand | double if dealers face-up card is: |
A and 2 | 5, 6 |
A and 3 | 5, 6 |
A and 4,5 | 4,5,6 |
A and 6 | 3 to 6 |
A and 7 | 2 to 6 |
A and 8 | 6 |
Surrender - when should you forfeit your hand and receive half your original stake back? It heavily depends on the number of decks used and other factors. Most typically players surrender when the dealer is showing an ace card face-up, which means he may have a blackjack hand.

You can experience our full suite of online blackjack games on any screen size, no matter how big or small. The gaming experience is the exact same, and all buttons and features are available, but with a mobile twist, ensuring a seamless experience.

- How to win at blackjack? You need to have a higher-scoring hand than the dealer without going over 21. If it's a tie, then you'll receive your bet back. However, a blackjack hand will beat a regular 21-point hand.
- Is it possible to count cards in online blackjack? The short answer is no. That's because the cards are shuffled after every round in online blackjack. In land-based casinos, the deck is shuffled after several hands have been played. Some gamblers believe they can gain an advantage by keeping a score of the number of high cards drawn, but such tactics are not possible in the online version.
- Where can I play blackjack against a live dealer? If you want to play against a live dealer, then check out our live dealer blackjack games. What's the point of playing a table game like blackjack at a real money online casino site if you are not able to cash out any amounts won?
And also: what's the point of choosing an online blackjack casino where the payment options available and the withdrawals are so complicated that make franz kafka's "the trial" feel like a walk in a park?
Always make sure you check out a casino's withdrawal and deposit options before you begin to play blackjack for real money.
Some deposit options might not be available at all blackjack sites. It's always good to check if your favourite one works on the website you picked.
Some websites let you play real money online blackjack with paypal while others offer instant bank wires.
Pick the right one for you. Being able to cash out any amounts won is as important as the game's basic strategy!

Tips on how to play blackjack online for real money
There's one difference between people who play blackjack online and players who play this popular game at land-based casinos in las vegas, atlantic city, venice, macau, and more.
If you play online, you mean business.
That's what smart players do.
If you play online blackjack for real money, you don't log into a top online casino after the fifth beer or after a long night out with your friends.
When you play at a brick-and-mortar casino, however…sometime it happens.
The last time this happened to me was a couple of weeks ago, in vilnius, lithuania.
I entered the casino around midnight and I left at 4 am - with far less money then I had when I went in.
The only right side of the evening is that I did not lose as much as the polish guy next to me. He kept spreading piles of €100 chips over two tables like those were candies.
I only had one pile of €10 chips - and I didn't multi-table. In other words: I survived.
Since your goal is to play smart, be wise, and win money, I have prepared a few blackjack tips that will help you to get better when you play online.
If you are a beginner and you are about to play your first real money blackjack games online, consider these tips a must.
You need to read them. And you need to follow them.
Before you play blackjack online
Never played online blackjack in your life?
Don't bet real money on your first hand of blackjack.
Blackjack is a table game that requires some research beforehand. Before your first bet, you have to know:
- The blackjack rules
- The basic terminology of blackjack
- The basic blackjack strategy
- The different types of blackjack games you can play
This beginner's guide to blackjack is a great place to start if you start from zero.
Those who are a little more experienced can skip the intro guide to this popular game and move straight to the basics of the best blackjack strategy.
That should be enough to get you a bit more action.
Remember: you can play online blackjack for free at most of the sites on the list above.
Many games are available in demo mode and you can (or should) keep playing new ones until you find your favourite variation of the game.
Getting the basics right helps you defy the house edge and make money.
Once you are done with the two articles and you have used the PDF cheat sheet to practice your games for at least 100 hands of free blackjack online - then you are ready to play blackjack online for real money.
You can now try to beat the dealer.
Blackjack bonuses to play online
You want to win as much as possible… and spend as little as possible.
When you play a card game online like blackjack, this isn't always possible.
Unless you decide to take the bonus route and make finding the best bonuses for blackjack the first step of your gaming experience.
Blackjack bonuses help you build your bankroll and get extra funds for your games. If you don't have a lot of money to play blackjack, you better look at what are the best bonuses to get you started.
There are two kinds of bonuses to play real money blackjack games:
With a deposit bonus you get free money when you deposit real money into your account. You get a cash match of a certain percentage and play with more money than you deposited.

Online casino blackjack
So, you’re looking to try blackjack online, but you’re not sure where to start. With a variety of options in the paddy power casino lobby, it’s not always easy to know where to start if you’re new to the game. To help you master the “21 card game”, we’ve put together this guide to its finer points. From the basics of a blackjack table to the nuances of exotic options such as cashback blackjack, this overview will help take you from beginner to blackjack brainbox in just a few minutes.
Blackjack online games
The game, in general, is often known as “21 bets” or “21 online”. Why? Simple: when you play 21, the aim is to make a total of 21. Now, the way classic blackjack works, is that you don’t always have to hit 21 in order to win the round. In fact, you can win with a much lower total if the dealer busts. However, the aim each time you make a blackjack bet is to stand, hit, double and split your way as close to 21 as possible.
Before we launch into specifics of the best online blackjack variants, let’s first quickly run through the rules:
- A blackjack betting round starts with a player making a bet equal to or above the minimum table limit.
- The player receives two cards face up, while only one of the dealer’s two starting cards are exposed.
- The player has the option to hit (take another card for free), stand, double down (double their bet and receive one extra card) or split if they have a pair (pay an extra bet to split their cards into two separate hands).
- Once the player stands, the action moves over to the dealer.
- The dealer must hit on any total below 16 and continue to hit until they have 17+.
- Once the dealer stands, the two totals are compared and the one that’s closest to 21 (or 21 exactly) wins. If the player goes over 21, they automatically lose. If the dealer goes over 21, the player automatically wins.
- In the event of a tie, or a "push", the player receives their stake back.
Those, in a nutshell, are the basics of live and online blackjack. Although there are a few additional extras, the above points form the fundamentals of every blackjack online game.

Popular online blackjack games
Now we’ve outlined the basics, here are some of the best blackjack games we offer:
Premium blackjack single hand:
This game is a version of classic blackjack where you get to play one hand at a time. The benefit of this is that it’s easier to focus on making the right moves. What’s more, no one else can join the table and disturb the dynamics.
Blackjack UK:
Another type of classic blackjack online, UK games allow you to bet up to 5,000 coins per round. Other than this, the rules are almost identical to vegas blackjack. The main difference between blackjack UK and other traditional variants is that the deck is shuffled after every round.
Perfect blackjack:
A bonus blackjack variant, these tables feature an optional side bet known as perfect pairs. Stake money on this and you’ll win up to 25X if your starting cards or the dealer’s make any sort of pair.
Cashback blackjack:
As its name suggests, cashback blackjack is a game where you can receive money back. By hitting the “cashback” button during the middle of a hand, you’ll be made an offer to end things early. This option allows you to get out if the cards aren’t going your way.
21 duel blackjack:
This game is one of the most unique blackjack variants we offer. At the start of a round, only one of your two cards is exposed. Additionally, there will be two communal cards to choose from. Whichever one you pick, the dealer will take the other. At this point, you can use the two face-up cards or reveal your face-down card. Whatever move you make, the totals are added together and the best one wins.
Blackjack surrender:
Similar to our cashback game, blackjack surrender has an RTP of 99.62% if you make the optimal moves. The defining feature of this variant is that you can fold your hand (if the dealer doesn’t have blackjack) and lose half your stake before having to decide whether to hit or stand.
Blackjack switch:
In blackjack switch, you pay to receive two starting hands per round. By doing this, you have the ability to switch the top cards if necessary. The idea of switching is to improve one or both hands and, therefore, have more of an advantage over the dealer.
Lucky lucky blackjack:
Another bonus blackjack variant, lucky lucky allows you to place a side bet where you can win up to 200X your bet if the right combination is dealt. In placing the bonus bet, you’re speculating on what the first three cards will be i.E. Your two cards plus the dealer’s up card.
Live dealer blackjack games
For an altogether more immersive 21 gambling game, our live blackjack lobby is where you need to go. Featuring 13 different options, this lobby allows you to access tables where real dealers are in control of the cards. Overall, each table offers a form of classic 21. However, the themes and settings will vary. What separates live dealer blackjack online from its virtual counterparts is the fact everything is real. The cards, the table, the dealers and the chat: everything is live and in your face.
Because of this, you won’t be able to play for free. However, for as little as one credit, you can join the action and get the feeling you’re sitting inside a real casino. Indeed, because our team is trained to be as efficient and engaging as possible, you’ll find that things are often more entertaining when you play live blackjack as opposed to virtual games. Of course, we’re not saying digital blackjack isn’t fun or without its benefits. However, if you want a more authentic experience, options such as shanghai blackjack are perfect.
New blackjack games
Our mission to is to make blackjack enjoyable and accessible for all players. Because of this, we’re constantly updating our lobby to ensure it features the latest online blackjack innovations. Some of our most recent additions include…
Buster blackjack:
We all love it when the dealer busts because it means you automatically win the hand. However, when you play buster blackjack, it’s even better because a total over 21 means you could win a bonus. By making a side bet, you can bank up to 2,000X your bet each time the dealer pulls too many cards and exceeds a total of 21.
Frankie dettori’s blackjack:
Part of the ever-popular frankie dettori casino game series, this game is all about collecting trophies. Just as the great man has done during his racing career, your job is to place side bets and collect random trophy cards. The more you scoop, the bigger your bonus wins will be.
All bets blackjack:
Essentially a combination of all the best blackjack games rolled into one, all bets takes the classic format and adds six bonus options to the mix. Borrowing from perfect blackjack, lucky lucky and more, all bets blackjack is the best way to play for bonus wins in the game of 21.
We’ve already given you the basics of how to play 21 online. However, to make things even easier to understand, here’s an example hand so you can see exactly how things go down at the table.
How to play blackjack – the 21 card game
- Player A places a one-coin bet.
- Dealer gives player A two cards face up: 7d 6s.
- Dealer deals themselves one card face up and one face down. The exposed card is the 9h.
- Player A has a total of 13. Since they don’t have a pair, they can’t split. Additionally, because they have a total over 13, it’s not advisable to double down (some variants won’t allow you to double on totals over 11).
- Because 13 is a weak total and the dealer has a total of nine, the best move is to hit.
- Dealer deals player A 5s.
- Player A now has 18 and decides to stand.
- Dealer exposes their face-down card which is the 8d. The dealer must stand as the rules state they must stand on 17+.
- Because neither player made blackjack (21 with an ace and a ten), the payout on a win is 1:1 instead of 3:2. Because player A had the best total, they win two coins (their stake plus a one coin profit).
Online blackjack card values
In all blackjack casino games, the cards will have the same value. Regardless of whether there is one deck in play or eight, each card retains its face value except for an ace, which can either be high or low. In other words, the 3d is worth three, the 8s is worth eight. Tens, jacks, queens and kings are all worth ten. Finally, an ace can be worth one or 11. In fact, when your starting hand contains an ace, it’s known as a soft total because it can be worth the lower or the higher total. For example, ad 5s can either be six or 16.
Online casino blackjack basics for beginners
As a beginner, the main things you should focus on are the basics. In other words, the stakes you’re playing for, your total, the dealer’s total, whether you should double/split and when it is best to stand. As you’d expect, the best approach will differ depending on the variant you’re playing and the cards that are dealt. The best way to determine the right course of action is to look at the dealer’s exposed card in relation to yours.
If the dealer has anything from two to six, they are weak. Seven or eight and they’re moderately strong. Finally, nine plus is a strong starting card. So, if the dealer is weak and your total is weak, it’s best to stand and let the dealer run the risk of busting. Conversely, if the dealer is strong and you’re weak, it’s time to hit. Going through this type of analysis is crucial and the best way to improve your results.
Blackjack strategy for advanced players
Once you’re a more advanced player, learning to read the deck can help. For instance, if there are three decks in play, you know there are 39 cards with a value of ten. Assuming the decks aren’t shuffled after each hand, you’d know that there would only be 30 left if you’d just seen nine cards with a value of ten dealt. Understanding when there are more high cards vs. Low cards left in play can help you gauge when it’s best to increase or decrease your bet size.
Additionally, if you’re comfortable with playing the main game, you can also start to add side bets to the mix. However, it’s important to note that bonus bets can eat into your profits. Although they are lucrative if successful, they lose more often than they win. So, if you’re going to make them, remember to use them sparingly.
Play online casino blackjack for real money
Before we leave you to try blackjack online, here’s a recap of some of the main points you’ll need to know when the cards start to fly…
Blackjack bets
As we’ve said, there are three main types of blackjack bets you can make in a standard game:
- Ante: this is your starting bet and must always be equal to or above/below the table minimum/maximum.
- Double down: this bet allows you to place an extra bet equal to your starting stake and receive one additional card.
- Split: you can split your starting hand into two separate ones by placing an additional bet equal to your starting stake. After splitting, re-splits and doubling down is possible.
Beyond the standard blackjack bets, the following options are also available:
- Insurance bets: if the dealer is showing an ace, you can take out insurance against them hitting blackjack. Insurance bets cost the same as your ante. If the dealer has blackjack, you’ll win 2:1 on your money.
- Side bets: otherwise known as bonus bets, these wagers take into account various outcomes and can pay many times your stake.
Blackjack odds
The odds of winning at blackjack are better than virtually any other casino game. Because you have so much control over the action, there’s more scope to employ certain strategies and techniques. Although the exact numbers will differ from variant to variant, it’s typically the case that the house edge is around 0.5% if you use correct play.
This means you’re almost a 50/50 shot against the dealer if you know how to make the right moves at the right time. Of course, blackjack odds are just like any other betting statistics in that they’re based on infinity. Therefore, you can’t expect to win every other session you play. Instead, you should, in theory, have a win rate close to 50% in the long run if you have the right strategy.
How to win at online blackjack
Unfortunately, we can’t tell you exactly how to win at blackjack. However, we can give you some advice that should help swing things in your favour. Firstly, to know when the best time to make a move is, go back to the previous sections on beginner and advanced tips. Once you’ve mastered those, bankroll management is crucial. As we’ve said, blackjack odds are based on infinity. Because of this, everything you do needs to be based on the long term.
In order for any strategy to be effective, you have to be able to make the moves indefinitely. Obviously, you can’t do this if you lose all of your money. Therefore, you have to know how much to bet based on the size of your bankroll. As a general rule, you should sit down at the table with no more than 3% of your total roll. By sticking to this, you should give yourself enough of a buffer to profit when times are good and survive when luck isn’t on your side.
The advantages of playing blackjack online
Now you know how to play blackjack online for real money, the only thing left to do is tell you why it’s a good idea. Regardless of where you are in terms of knowledge and experience, our desktop and mobile casino software is easy to use and highly entertaining. What’s more, you’ll be able to enjoy the following benefits each time you ante-up:

Spice up your blackjack game
Blackjack is an exceptional game in just how many variants you can find in online casinos. Experimenting with new types of blackjack games keeps you on your toes and ensures that the game never gets dull.
Avoid these blacklisted casinos
While UK gamblers are spoiled for choice in 2020, there are a few shady online casinos that have proven themselves not to be trustworthy with players’ hard earned money. When players report consistent issues with payouts or customer service, for example, we place this casino on our blacklist. The last thing we want is for new players to be duped by a rogue casino, because we believe online gambling should be fun, safe, and stress-free.

Blackjack tips & tricks from the experts
What does our experienced blackjack team have to say about the game? Quite a bit, it turns out. Here are some of the top tips when it comes to playing blackjack online.
Take advantage of free play
if you’re relatively new to blackjack, or just want to make the most of your budget, free play is your friend. Especially for trying out a new game or strategy, there’s no better way to maximise your practice time than utilizing your online casino’s free play options. Of course, the same goes for playing with bonus cash.
Choose a low house edge
the lower the house edge, the higher your chances of a payout become over time. Spend some time on your favourite UK online casino checking out the different blackjack options, and do some research into the house edge on each one.
A little goes a long way
since blackjack is a game of skill, every minute you spend getting familiar with the rules and strategies of your favourite blackjack variant means that you’re that much further ahead of new players who don’t know the game. If you’re playing for real money, it’s absolutely worth your time to spend a few hours brushing up on details: the house edge, possibilities to surrender, and payout specifics.
Online blackjack strategies that work
When some new players ask for blackjack strategies, what they’re looking for is an easy way to beat the system and score a huge payout. For many people, card counting comes to mind. But the harsh reality is that card counting is impossible at online casinos, and that ultimately, the house will always retain its edge over the players.
The most fool proof blackjack strategies for online gambling are the simple ones: know your rules, of course, and be sure to set a budget ahead of time. For more information about this popular game, check out our blackjack guide here.
Reap the benefits of playing 21 online
Did you know that playing blackjack at online casinos in the UK actually offers distinct advantages over visiting a live casino? Of course, there’s the convenience of playing from home, but online casinos also offer something that land-based casinos don’t: heaps of bonus cash.
You can get bonuses for signing up, for playing a certain game, or even for downloading a mobile version, and this free money essentially allows you to test new strategies and games risk free.
Taking your game to the next level
Ready to get starting playing online blackjack? If you’ve identified a top UK online casino that matches your preferences, simply sign up and claim your welcome bonus today. Remember to:
- Take advantage of free play and bonuses to get to know the game and practice your skills.
- Know your blackjack variants, so you can pick a game type that works for you. Remember that some blackjack variants have better odds than others.
- Learn the game, because at the end of the day, the only fool proof blackjack strategy is outsmarting your opponents.
Keep our experts’ tips in mind, and you’re on track to collect some solid winnings.

Online blackjack games in pennsylvania
Online or live, blackjack is the most popular casino game and is available at casino and racino venues in pennsylvania. You’ll also find roulette, craps, baccarat, and casino poker games.
With the gambling expansion bill, residents and visitors of the keystone state have even more options to play blackjack.
On this page, we cover live and online blackjack in pennsylvania. You’ll find out where to enjoy free blackjack games and how to play for real money online. We also offer information on the variety of formats and rules, and side bets with progressive jackpots.
Finally, we cover bonuses and rewards, discuss the PA laws that govern online table games, and examine what games are available at PA online casinos.
Is blackjack legal in pennsylvania?
You can legally play blackjack in pennsylvania as long as you are 21 years or older at any one of the licensed brick-and-mortar casinos. Also, you can play online for real money at pennsylvania-licensed online casinos.
The pennsylvania gambling control board (PGCB) requires casinos to offer fair rules for their blackjack tables. This means paying 3:2 for blackjack, generous splitting or doubling rules, and that the dealer stands on soft 17.
Playing online blackjack for free at PA online casinos
If you would like to check out the games before committing with real money, most online casinos in pennsylvania offer a demo mode. Many casinos will give you a no-deposit cash bonus to let you try out a game for real money.
Demo games are available only via the software-based blackjack games. You can view live dealer games, though you cannot place practice bets. If you are playing demo games, the software will not remember your wins and losses; you will start fresh each time the game loads.
Real money blackjack games
All PA online casinos offer one or more real money online blackjack tables. Many also offer generous welcome bonus offers, including free play with no deposit needed.
The key factor when moving to real-money blackjack is to select the games with the lowest house edge, which is a percentage.
The edge shows the long-term outcome of your bets, and when the random draw of cards is accounted for. The best games have a smaller number of decks (single deck is best), liberal doubling and splitting rules (including the ability to double after a split) and have the dealer stand on a soft 17.
When moving to real-money blackjack, you’ll need to know basic strategy. This shows the correct action for every combination of the dealer’s up-card and your two cards. If you play differently than this strategy, you’ll be handing money to the casino over time.
Online casinos have side bets. These add an element of excitement to the game, and big windfalls of cash are possible. Keep in mind that these bets are “expensive” in terms of the house edge.
To play online blackjack for real money at a regulated PA casino, you’ll need to make a deposit. There are many ways to do this safely and securely. Most importantly, you need to be inside PA state lines, and at least 21 years old to play.
Popular deposit options include visa and mastercard credit or debit cards and prepaid cards. Also, you can use different types of bank transfers. Old-fashioned wires are expensive, although ACH transfers and bill pay make great alternatives.
In addition, you can use cash at the live casino cage (each online casino is licensed by one of the live venues) or use 7-eleven and CVS stores with paynearme.
Finally, third-party payment systems are popular. Brands the casinos will hopefully use eventually include paypal, neteller, and skrill.
Which PA casinos have real money blackjack online?
- Sugarhouse casinoand their partner rush street interactive will deliver online blackjack, along with other casino games.
- Hollywood casino online has teamed with IGT to be one of the first to the online casino market.
- Unibet casino has partnered with meadowlands to bring online gaming including a variety of online blackjack games to the commonwealth’s residents.
Types of blackjack
The game of blackjack has become so popular that hundreds of variations exist. Most of these are small changes to the basic game rules. For example, some blackjack games allow surrendering your hand, while others do not.
In pennsylvania live casinos, the standard (US rules) game is available, usually with one of two different side bets.
Stadium (electronic console) blackjack is also available, which allows you to play against a virtual dealer sitting at electronic tables. Variations include spanish 21 and (at mohegan sun) interlock blackjack.
Live blackjack rules in pennsylvania
The PGCB ensures that live casinos have player-friendly rules for live blackjack games. With a return-to-player (for perfect play) percentage of just 96.6%, these rules are a world away from vegas games.
The key to this low-house edge is the following:
- Blackjack pays 3:2
- Doubledown any cards plus double after split
- Surrender available
- Dealer stands on soft 17
There are plenty of side bets available at live blackjack tables. Keep in mind that the house edge for these is very high. If the jackpots get big enough, or maybe you enjoy the excitement of a possible windfall of money, then the following side bets are available:
- Blazing 777s (progressive)
- Lucky ladies and kingsbounty
- Royalmatch
- Match the dealer
- 21+3
Online blackjack variations
Online, casino sites must adhere to the same blackjack rules as brick and mortar casinos. There will be other variations though. The main distinction is between US and european blackjack.
- In the US game, the dealer will “peek” at his or her hidden card when the up-card is a 10 or ace. If he or she has a blackjack, the hand will not continue (players with blackjacks will tie and everyone else loses).
- In the european game, the dealer only getsone (visible) card. The second one is dealt once all the players have acted.
Live dealer blackjack is a popular alternative to the software-based format online.
It uses real dealers and a live video stream from a casino studio. Most games have seven seats, just like in a live casino. You drag and drop chips in order to bet, and press buttons to hit, stand, double, or split.
Live dealer games are hugely popular, adding a social element to online gambling.
There are many other blackjack formats that you can find at online casinos. Until all the PA brands are fully launched, we will not know exactly which games and side bets will be available.
Possible formats include:
- Spanish 21
- Blackjack switch
- Free bet blackjack
- Pontoon
- Blackjack burn
Blackjack casino bonuses & rewards
With competition between online casinos for new players, plenty of rewards and bonuses are available.
As well as smaller free bet bonuses, casinos will likely offer matched bonuses on your first deposit and plenty of promotions including reload bonus deals.
One important factor for blackjack fans is that the playthrough requirement for these bonuses is usually weighted. Since blackjack has a lower house edge (compared to online slots), you have to wager the bonus more times. Typical weightings are 10% of your bet count toward bonus clearance.
Good casinos (both live and online) will reward your play via a points collection system. Many casinos tie this system to their existing loyalty program.
For example, sugarhouse PA uses the rush rewards program, and harrah’s uses caesars rewards. As you play, you’ll unlock bigger and better bonuses. At live casinos, this can translate into free play, resort credit or comp hotel nights.
While the rewards for blackjack are not as generous as for slots, we do recommend you sign up for loyalty programs whenever possible. If you don’t, you’ll be missing out on free money.
Odds on blackjack
To understand the game, it’s a good idea to take a look at why it is so popular among casino players. The biggest draw is blackjack is not just a game of chance, but also a game of skill.
Players calculate odds on the fly to determine their next move. These odds can change depending on the number of decks being used in the game. Each blackjack variation can use a different number of decks, so it’s important to be aware of this before sitting down to a game.
Here is a look at how the number of decks used will influence the house edge of a blackjack game:
1 deck: 0.17 percent
2 decks: 0.46 percent
4 decks: 0.60 percent
6 decks: 0.64 percent
8 decks: 0.65 percent
Pennsylvania laws and blackjack games
Table games were added to live casinos in an expansion of the 2004 gaming act in january 2010. This set the tax rate at 16% for table games, which is much lower for slots. Under the PGCB rules, blackjack needs to be player-friendly, with a low house edge.
There was a gap between online blackjack games becoming legal and the first online casinos opening.
Gov. Tom wolf signed the gambling expansion bill, act 271, in october 2017. This set up a licensing process for online casinos, and the first sites went live in mid-2019.

Blackjack is quick and easy to learn.
The dealer will deal two cards to all players. Picture cards – so jacks, queens & kings - all count as 10. Aces can count as either 1 or 11 - just depends on what else you have in your hand. The idea is to beat the dealer by getting close to 21 but without going over. If you get to 22 or more you’re bust. But, if the dealer deals you an ace and any card worth 10 then you’ve got blackjack and only the dealer getting blackjack too can stop you winning!
If you end up with the same hand as the dealer – you don’t win but you do get your money back to try again.

Some live casinos such as wild casino , are compatible with mobile devices, enabling players to play on their smartphones and tablets. Playing live blackjack is a fun experience, and you will find yourself playing it again and again.

How does live blackjack work
If you load a game of live blackjack on your desktop, smartphone, or tablet, you will see a virtual gaming table, which you can use to place bets. At the same time, the gaming screen includes a video box through which the live gaming action is continuously streamed to your device. In the live video, you can see a real croupier operating the live blackjack game.
You must understand that the video you see is not per-recorded and the game you are playing is not generated by computer software. You are viewing a game that is really being played either at a gaming studio or at a land-based casino. You are also placing bets on that game. If you still feel that this cannot be possible, you can interact with the croupier running the game through a chat box on your gaming screen.
Since live blackjack is a game that is actually being played at a physical location, it takes you as close to the land-based casino gaming experience as possible.
Live blackjack in the US
Since the US is a grey jurisdiction, US players cannot enjoy a wide choice of live blackjack games. Ever since the US federal government passed the unlawful internet gambling enforcement act (UIGEA) in 2006, a large number of operators, payment processors, and software providers withdrew from the US market, leaving residents with very few gambling options. For example, microgaming, the casino gaming software giant, has developed the largest number of live games, but doesn’t offer its services to US residents.
In spite of this, US residents can play at live casinos powered by US friendly software providers such as visionary igaming and global gaming labs. The latter has been in the US for a long time and has partnered with well-known online casinos that offer live games such as wild casino.
Live blackjack rules
Live blackjack is similar to online blackjack and the blackjack played at land-based casinos. The game has a number of variants, each of which stands in a class of its own although based on standard blackjack rules.
Here are some of those rule variations:
- Live blackjack games may use six, seven, or eight decks of playing cards.
- Live casinos may offer either one-to-one blackjack tables the way it is done at land-based casinos or one-to-many tables.
- Croupiers running one-to-many tables receive bets from as many players as possible and deal the same hand to each player.
- The dealer will either stand or hit on soft 17.
- Rules related to doubling the wager, splitting card pairs, the number of times pairs can be split, surrendering, purchasing insurance, and so on vary from one live blackjack game to the other.
- The betting limits vary from variant to variant and casino to casino. If you are a high roller who wants to play high-limit live blackjack, you only have to contact customer care. Depending on the online casino you are playing at, you can bet up to $5,000 at a time.
How to play live blackjack
A game of live blackjack, like any other casino game, begins with a bet. Once all players have placed their bets, the live croupier will deal two cards to each player in the game.
Players have to now study the hand dealt to them and decide their next moves. Depending on the value of the hand dealt to them, they can choose to do any of the following:
- Hit or receive another card
- Stand or stop receiving any more cards
- Double their bets in case of a favorable hand
- Split pairs and play two hands simultaneously
The resulting hand is then compared to the dealers and players will either win or lose their bets. If a player gets blackjack or a hand that equals point value 21, they will receive a payout of 3 to 2. If players do not win anything, they can place another bet and play again.
Depending on the rules of the live blackjack game they are playing, players can also purchase insurance against a possible dealer blackjack or surrender bad hands and get back half their bets.
Each live blackjack game has a separate set of rules for dealers and players. If players need to interact with the live croupier or fellow players anytime during the game, they can do so using the chat box in their gaming screen. However, chat rules are very strict at live casinos. Players are not allowed to make rude or offensive remarks. If they do, the live casino will prevent them from using the chat functionality. In order to protect live dealers from such unpleasant experiences, some casinos do not offer the chat functionality, but this takes all the fun away from the live dealer game.
Live dealer blackjack casinos
You can rest assured that live blackjack games are 100% fair and random. A live blackjack game can just not be rigged by the casino authorities because its results are based on actual gaming activity.
To start playing live blackjack, you only have to register any of our recommended live blackjack casinos.
Live dealer blackjack FAQ
With live dealer blackjack offering the same human touch, rules, and gambling experience you can find in the best of land-based casinos, there are little excuses not to give this popular casino game a try. And if you’re still unable to make up your mind, here are the most frequent concerns about live dealer blackjack addressed, to help you on your way.
Can you count cards in live blackjack?
Even though it seems like the perfect opportunity, since live dealer blackjack doesn’t rely on rngs, the reality is that card counting in live games is impossible. Not only do live dealer games use 6 to 8 decks, which complicates the matter by itself, but they also only go up to 50% penetration. This means that you’ll never get past half the deck, thus making your counting skills entirely useless.
Is live blackjack fixed?
The simple answer to this question is that casinos don’t need to fix their games to earn money. Blackjack has an inherent house edge that ensures casinos turn a profit with each hand and have fewer reasons to cheat. Also, most players who join a table are rarely skillful enough to increase their advantage significantly, thus giving the casino an even bigger house edge and fewer reasons to pull tricks.
And even if a casino dared to fix their games, the news will spread so fast around the online community that it will be impossible to prevent leaks. This will, in turn, get the casino blacklisted and lead to millions in loses, which is not something worth risking over an already profitable game.
What is the house edge in live blackjack?
There is no simple answer to this question. With blackjack, the house edge depends both on the variation of the game but also you as a player. The more skillful and optimal your play is, the lower your house edge will be.
The average theoretical house edge is often said to be 1%, but with the right rules and style of play it can go even lower, sometimes even as low as 0.48%. However, it can also get higher, especially if you have little knowledge of the game.
Is strategy important?
Yes it is. Blackjack is a game of using simple math and planning, and as such requires a sound knowledge of basic strategy. If you’re only playing it haphazardly, you will only waste your money away.
Do other players at the table affect my outcomes?
As logical as this common myth sounds, it is very far from the truth. While it’s true that a player before you might have some effect on the next outcome, mathematically speaking this doesn’t affect your odds at any significant level.
What’s the difference between live blackjack and blackjack in land-based casinos?
There’s little to zero difference between both games, except for the personal experience. Both offline and online live blackjack games have a human dealer, follow the same rules, and pay out the same.
There might be some games that offer a different rule or two, but the same can be said about land-based casinos.
How many decks are used in live blackjack?
Since live dealer tables can be abused with the help of software and card counting algorithms within the comfort of your home, live dealer games are usually played with 6 to 8 decks. Eight decks is the most common variety, as it allows for longer play before the cards are reshuffled. It’s always important to note the number of decks used, so that you can adjust your strategy.
Should I accept “even money”?
Live dealer games now offer the same insurance that you can find in land-based casinos. The “even money” bet is normally offered when a dealer’s hole card can end up being a 10 value card, thus giving the dealer blackjack. The wager pays 2 to 1, meaning you can end up with half your money back, should the dealer win.
But as lucrative as this sounds, it’s highly advised that you don’t take insurance, since statistics have shown that the probability of dealer blackjack is lower than the probability of busting. Namely, you have a 69% chance of winning that bet, i.E. You have the upper hand.
Can I play live blackjack for free?
No. While there are some casinos that let you watch a live blackjack game for free, you can’t actually interact in any way with the game. Thus, if you want to practice your strategies, you can use the free demo versions of regular blackjack games offered at most online casinos.
How fast does my internet connection have to be when I play live dealer blackjack?
Since live games are streamed in HD, it is better if you have a fast optical or ADSL connection for best experience. Lower connections speeds will lead to glitches and lags, which can end up causing mistakes from your side. That’s why you should always check your connection speed before you join a table.
