Rigged online casinos are far less common than you might expect. If you manage to find an unlicensed casino or a gambling site that had its credentials revoked, you run the risk of playing rigged games. Generally, if you stick to recommended sites, you won't have to deal with unfair games or other troubling issues. The easiest way to spot a dishonest gambling site is to rely on blacklists, detailing exactly which sites to avoid and why. Before an online casino is certified, it must allow a third-party organisation, such as ecogra, to test the software. Only after thousands of outcomes have been carried out and assessed will the operator be given a seal of approval.

Rigged online casinos: dispelling a gambling myth

How many times have you anted up in the casino online arena and heard someone say: "this game is rigged!" ever since online gambling became a booming industry, a small number of people have been quick to suggest that something is awry. These people will state, as if it was fact, that online casino games are rigged.

Although these people's exact reasoning isn't clear, their implication is: the online casino operator is deliberately manipulating the odds. Of course, it will come as no surprise that these potentially libellous accusations always come in the wake of a significant loss. While this fact doesn't prove that the accusations are inaccurate, it does give you some indication as to why you will often hear the phrase "online casinos are rigged."

Fortunately, we don't need to rely on this emotional bias to discredit this claim. In fact, we can rely on two logical arguments to swiftly dispel the myth that licensed and regulated online casinos are rigged to favour the house.

It's all about numbers & probability

Aside from losing money and getting emotional about it, casino naysayers often claim that certain games are rigged because they see something that they think can't be possible. As humans, we naturally look for patterns in order to understand things, so when we see something that we believe constitutes a pattern we take note.

In the casino online world, the people who claim the industry is rigged will point to instances where a set of results looked odd. For example, if a player is taking a shot at roulette and they see the number 8 roll in six times in a row, they will identify this as a pattern that proves the casino has rigged the game.

Unfortunately, this line of thinking is misguided. Although a run of six 8s in a row is improbable, it's not impossible and that's the key. Each spin of the roulette wheel is known as an independent event and that means each previous result has no bearing on the future. Therefore, according to the laws of probability, it's entirely possible for six 8s to spin in and not be the result of a rigged casino.

Of course, while you won't often see results such as this, it can happen and that's the important thing to understand. Although it's not impossible that an unregulated casino online could have a rigged system, it's highly unlikely. Moreover, the fact that certain results might look odd doesn't prove anything other than the reality of probability.

When the odds are stacked against you

If you understand how casino games work, you'll quickly realise that a casino doesn't have to cheat to come out ahead. In fact, casino games favour the house by their very nature. Whether you play roulette, blackjack, craps, baccarat, or any other casino staple, the game is set up so that the casino pays out less money than they take in.

You've probably heard the expression that the only way to win playing casino games is to open your own casino. Naturally, as we mentioned earlier, anything can happen over the short term. The same outcomes that cause some players to cry foul can cause other to jump for joy. It all depends on where you've placed your bets.

Random number generators - keeping things random

If you're still not convinced and don't like to put your faith in abstract concepts such as probability, then there is hard evidence that legit online casinos aren't rigged in the form of random number generators.

All licensed casino online sites in the UK have to pass a slew of stringent tests before they are given a licence, and one of these tests is the fairness of their software. Powering every casino online site in the UK is a piece of software known as a random number generator. As its name suggests, this software generates a series of random numbers; numbers which are then turned into results on the screen such as a blackjack hand or roulette spin. That means that every roll of the dice, slot machine spin, and shuffle of card deck at a casino online mathematically mirrors what could happen at a land based casino.

Before an online casino is certified, it must allow a third-party organisation, such as ecogra, to test the software. Only after thousands of outcomes have been carried out and assessed will the operator be given a seal of approval.

Once the casino has had its random number generator certified as fair, they can then apply for a UK igaming licence. However, this isn't the end of the story. To ensure that an online casino doesn't let its standards slip, regulatory bodies such as the UK gambling commission (UKGC) will continually monitor operator's random number generators. Sites often display their certificates and audit reports on their sites.

How to spot a rigged casino

Rigged online casinos are far less common than you might expect. If you manage to find an unlicensed casino or a gambling site that had its credentials revoked, you run the risk of playing rigged games. Generally, if you stick to recommended sites, you won't have to deal with unfair games or other troubling issues. The easiest way to spot a dishonest gambling site is to rely on blacklists, detailing exactly which sites to avoid and why.

It's worth noting that unfair games aren't the only thing to watch out for when gambling on the internet. Unscrupulous sites are more likely to make you jump through endless hoops to claim your winnings or fail to honour their bonuses. We're mentioning these points not because we want to scare you, but so you are cautious about where you play. Fortunately, there are dozens of terrific sites that offer fair games and keep their part of the bargain.

Do something about it

Every online casino we recommend will have a valid gaming licence, which means the random number generators are all certified as fair. Of course, if you're still not happy with the service you've received and feel as though a site is rigged, you can take your grievances to the UKGC.

As the industry's governing body, the UKGC is responsible for investigating any complaints made against an online casino in the UK. If you do suspect that a casino online is rigged, then you can simply contact the UKGC by phone, email, or post and outline the nature of your complaint.

Tell them the site you've played on, the series of events you find suspicious, and any other background information you feel is relevant. After noting your complaint, the UKGC will look into the issue and inform you if it finds any instances of cheating or rigged software.

Fair play is in your hands

While the potential for rigged games certainly exists, it's far less common than you might suspect. Most of the evidence disgruntled players provide doesn't withstand minor scrutiny. Nonetheless, there's nothing wrong with a little vigilance.

Always stick to licenced online casinos. If something goes awry, don't be afraid to speak up. Finally, if you aren't satisfied with the gameplay at an online casino, it's not hard to find another place to play. All it takes is a quick swipe or click to uncover endless new options.

Are online casinos rigged? What to look out for

The internet can sometimes seem as risky and lawless as the wild west. Every day new online casinos appear and disappear from the web, and there are stories everywhere of scams, rigged slots and downright illicit criminal behaviour, with short-lived websites running on pirated software from unrestricted locations. After a bout of bad luck on online slots or cards, the anonymity and artificiality of internet gaming may have left you asking “are casinos rigged”? The answer to that question is “usually not”; rigged casinos can be easily spotted if you know the warning signs. Here we break down how to spot a rigged casino and how to avoid any casino scams.

Rigged Online Casinos: Dispelling a Gambling Myth, are internet casinos rigged.

Rigged casinos

Rigged casinos unfortunately do exist. Unlike the fine print on a games site or the inherent long-term house advantage that an online casino inevitably has over the gamer (the payout is lower than the real odds), rigged casinos actively look to rip-off customers through fraudulent activities. This can include anything from fixing software algorithms to lying about the payout percentage. Such casinos often have glitzy and impressive visual aesthetics, used as a means of alluring and assuring customers of their legitimacy. What’s more, their website’s graphics and software are often stolen from genuine gambling sites, making them pirated and unpredictable. The good news is that if you are gambling through a large, reputable and regulated online casino, the chances of it being rigged are very slim. After all, fraudulent activity in the UK will lead straight to their license being revoked and bad publicity. As with any gambling activity, looking for a guaranteed mark of government regulation and registration is usually enough to guarantee your safety. In some rare cases, legitimate companies have been found to be fraudulent in some way, but these cases are very rare indeed.

Spotting a rigged casino

The first mark of a rigged casino is its lack of certification, its “newness” and its location of operation. Red flags should be raised immediately if such information is being withheld or is unverifiable. If a license is visible, check if this clicks through to an actual regulatory body. When gambling online in the UK, sticking to the known gambling websites will prevent you falling fowl of fraud. All reputable online gambling sites require a license to operate. Nevertheless, most websites operate from small island nations or jurisdictions — like gibraltar and malta — for tax and legal reasons. Although this may sound like a red flag, they still require licensing from UK and local authorities (such as the malta gaming authority), meaning that they can safely be safely legitimate. You should also look out for the following:

  • Operational softwaregambling software is big business. Many legal gambling websites purchase the rights to use reputable software from a small handful of designers. The most prevalent casino software makers tend to be fairer and more secure, therefore alleviating any risk of rigging. Some prevalent software brands include netent and microgaming.

  • Reputationpositive review sites can be a mixed bag, but generally if you find a website with a good reputation and positive testimonials with verified users, then this is a good sign.

  • Deposit optionsif an online casino offers a variety of depositing options — including via multiple card types, paypal, neteller and more — they are most likely honest. If a casino asks for cash, walk away.

  • Independent testing & official regulationjust as legal and judicial authorities offer regulation, so too do independent testers. You can look out for feedback from watchdogs such as ecogra(ecommerce online gaming regulation and assurance) or the UK government-led CMA (competition and markets authority). You can look out for private audits which test the random number generator’s (“RNG”) of an online slots process, giving you a realistic figure on odds. Honest website will allow such data to be made public and publishable, and most do. UK casinos frequently opt to have their payouts certified by the gaming laboratories international (GLI).

So, are online casinos rigged?

The bottom line is that online casinos are businesses designed to accrue as much profit as possible. As such, online slots and cards inevitably generate a heavy income for their online casinos, largely eliminating the need to cheat. Although there are known cases of rigged casinos in history, by sticking with government regulated and independently verified known online casinos, you will not come across any rigged gaming.

Rigged online blackjack

Can online blackjack be rigged?

"has anyone actually won money playing online blackjack?"

"the dealer gets twice the blackjacks as the player, 8 in 100 hands, and the dealer always wins more doubles."

"it would be more likely that I would get hit by lightning than suffer the results I did."

The preceding statements were taken from message boards which specialize in online gambling discussions. While many players believe just the opposite, a growing minority are convinced that online blackjack is indeed rigged by the house.

The question this article tries to answer is, "how likely is it that online blackjack is rigged?"

The answer to this question, like almost all questions, is, "it depends." or "sometimes."

Take, for example, a scam in england which cost an online gambling operation $1.6 million dollars before a rigged blackjack game was discovered, and it's easy to see why many players are so suspicious.

Couple that with the fact that online wagering, once thought of in the same seedy vein as online pornography, has achieved a level of mainstream popularity which attracts thousands of new players daily, often providing easy targets for the unscrupulous and the downright immoral, and you have a situation rife with mistrust and paranoia.

Customers who complain about online blackjack being rigged have four main concerns:

1. Refusal to pay out winnings

Perhaps the worst violation, there is nothing more frustrating than actually beating the house advantage and then finding that your chosen online casino will not pay. And since it is not a land-based business, your odds of recovering the money are very slim.

2. Lengthy delays before winnings are paid out

Almost as annoying as #1, but at least you eventually get what is coming to you.

3. Closures with no warning, without refunding deposited funds

This is a problem almost exclusive to fly-by-night operations and casinos established solely to scam the customer. This problem will almost never be encountered if you choose to gamble at a reputable casino with a solid business history.

4. Use of rigged software, with outcomes not randomly generated

Perhaps even more insidious than not paying out winnings is an online blackjack game which cheats you out of the chance to make a profit in the first place. This subject is often the most passionately debated, because it's almost impossible for the average internet player to prove it one way or another.

While such crooked software does exist, many blackjack players are just too eager to cry foul when they suffer a bad run, thus casting doubt on the industry as a whole and furthering the overall sense of paranoia. While these concerns might sometimes be real and valid, many gamblers simply ignore the most basic fact of gambling which is constantly staring them in the face.

Every casino in the world, whether it's online or land-based, offers games which give the house an edge (strangely, few people ever complain about losing the lottery, a game where the house, in this case the government, has a huge advantage over the player). No matter what you do, you generally can't beat that edge.

Casinos will always make money. Gamblers, as a general rule, will usually lose money. And the longer you play, the more likely it is that the house edge will catch up to you. That's how it works.

If it didn't, casinos would have gone the way of the dodo a long time ago. But despite this fact, many players continue to claim that online black jack games are rigged, usually citing certain software manufacturers as the real culprits.

Most software makers charge an internet casino between $10,000 and $250,000 to develop a web-based casino, and often the software companies get as much as 30% of the gaming win generated by the site.

With that kind of money on the line, it's small wonder that someone who just lost $1,000 at on line blackjack might grow suspicious.

An authority site in this industry, has said, "online casinos are fair and honest for the most part. If you stick to the big four software manufacturers (boss media, cryptologic, microgaming, and world gaming) you shouldn't have to worry about the fairness of the games themselves - the only thing you need to look into is their reputation for support and prompt payments."

An internet gambling expert who reviews e-casinos says, "cryptologic offers about a 98 % return on video poker and blackjack, but, of course, the rules are such that the casino's odds may be a bit higher due to player mistakes. If you want better odds than what the major software-makers offer, you have to venture a bit off the beaten path, but if you do that you risk security."

Considering the above statement, it should then come as little surprise that the problems have occurred almost exclusively at unlicensed and/or unregulated online casinos (it is thought that there are 200+ online casinos operating illegally today).

Casinos licensed by a responsible government are regularly audited and seem to have as few problems as regulated land-based casinos, and the odds they offer are similar.

When considering online blackjack casinos, try looking for the following marks of quality:

1. Software

Reliable and proven software backend that generates random numbers. Probabilities cannot be manipulated by the software backend.

2. Business practice

Operators have shown a history of stable business operations. No prior fraud convictions, bankruptcies, etc.

3. Fair play

Look for companies who openly advertise payouts and are audited by a reputable, independent organization. Bonus winners should also be openly advertised to show that reliable payouts have been made.

Anyone, particularly the software developer, can claim any payout percentage they want. Without independent auditing (from a reputable firm like price waterhouse coopers, for example) these numbers mean absolutely nothing.

4. Quick and reliable payout process

Operators must have some type of payment processing that allows for reasonably quick payouts.

5. Playability

Software should be reliable and able to retain the game state in case of dropped connections.

6. Customer support

Any casino you want to play at should have a toll-free call center and prompt email support. The customer service staff should demonstrate a firm understanding of the product.

7. Disclosure

Virtual black jack casinos should demonstrate full disclosure in releasing details regarding payouts, policies, insurance, etc.

So is online blackjack rigged?

In a sense, all casino games are rigged by paying out at different odds than the true odds. In other words, all casino games have a house edge that is unbeatable.

But usually when someone asks about online casino being rigged, their concern is with whether or not they're getting the same house edge that they would have playing a non-virtual, or brick and mortar version of the game in a land-based casino.

Most of the time, if you're playing at a reputable casino, you will be receiving a fair game, because there is little motivation for an internet casino to cheat with their software. The house edge is already built into the game, so there is no need to cheat in order to win in the long run.

In fact, most online casino operators have plenty of incentive NOT to rig their software. If they get caught, they go out of business, and then their profit margins become 0.

Are slot machines honest?

Rigged Online Casinos: Dispelling a Gambling Myth, are internet casinos rigged.

One of the most common questions you’ll see about anything in the casino gambling industry relates to “honesty”. You’ll see this question asked about every casino game under the sun. You’ll also see it asked about every casino, especially the online gambling sites.

In this post, I want to address this specific question:

How do you define honest?

When I use google to look for a definition of honesty, I see some of the following definitions listed:

  • “free of deceit and untruthfulness”

  • “sincere”

  • “morally correct or virtuous”

  • “fairly earned, through hard work”

I think most people are thinking of the first definition when they ask whether slots games are honest. They want to make sure they’re not being cheated. In this context, the answer is yes, slot machines are honest. I’ll explain why in detail in the rest of this post.

In the second context, where “honest” means “sincere”—I’m less sure. Are the casinos sincere when they want you to think you’re able to win money? I think so, but they know in the long run, anyone who plays slots long enough will lose all their money.

In the third and fourth contexts, I’d have to say that slot machines are NOT honest. Slot machines are closer to morally neutral than they are to sinful, but you might have a different belief system about such things. It’s hard to say that slots don’t appeal to one of the seven deadly sins, though (greed).

I’m not sure anyone could (or would) consider money won on a slot machine “earned” or to have anything to do with “hard work”. It’s a game of luck. If you win, then you got lucky—it has nothing to do with working hard or being smart.

I’ll explain more about that later in this post, too.

How a slot machine works mathematically

Answering the question “are slot machines honest?” begins with learning how the games work mathematically. The math behind the games is easier to understand than most people probably think.

The first concept to understand is basic probability. When someone says “probability”, they’re talking about the mathematical likelihood that something is going to happen. That “something” is called an event.

The probability of an event is always represented as a number between 0 and 1. An event that will always occur no matter what has a probability of 1. An event that will never occur has a probability of 0. An event that will occur half the time has a probability of 0.5.

For simplicity’s sake, and to make understanding the concept easier, I just used whole numbers and decimals in the previous paragraph. But probabilities are almost always expressed as percentages or fractions.

How to express probability as a percentage

You’re watching the evening news, and the meteorologist says there’s a 50% chance of rain tomorrow.

That means it’s just about as likely to rain as it is to not rain.

You flip a coin. You have a 50% chance of it landing on heads. You also have a 50% chance of it landing on tails.

If you add the probabilities of all possible events together, you always get a total of 1 (or 100%).

Probability is the mathematical engine that makes gambling games possible.

How to calculate a probability

Here’s how you calculate a probability:

You take the number of ways an event can happen. You divide that by all the total events possible (including what can happen and what happens if it doesn’t.)

You’re rolling a single six-sided die. You want to know the probability of getting a 6.

There are 6 possible outcomes. Only one of them is a 6.

The probability of getting a 6 is 1/6.

Another way to express that is using odds, which can be useful when calculating whether a bet is expected to be mathematically profitable or not.

Odds expresses the number of ways something can’t happen versus the number of ways it can happen.

In the six-sided die example, the odds of getting a 6 are 5 to 1. You have 5 ways of NOT rolling a 1, and only 1 way of rolling a 1.

If you want to calculate a probability that includes the word “or”, you add the probabilities of the events together.

If you want to calculate a probability that includes the word “and”, you multiply the probabilities by each other.

You want to know the probability of getting a 1 or a 2 on a roll of a six-sided die. The probability of each is 1/6.

You can reduce that to 1/3.

You roll 2 dice. You want to know the probability of getting a 6 on both dice. The probability of each is 1/6.

Applying probability to a simple hypothetical slot machine game

But how does all this apply to the honesty of slot machines?

I’ll use a super simple hypothetical slot machine game to explain how this probability affects the integrity of the game.

This super simple game has 3 symbols on each reel—an orange, a lemon, and a cherry.

The probability of getting a lemon on the first reel is 1/3.

The probability of getting a lemon on the second reel is also 1/3.

In fact, it’s the same on each reel.

But the game only pays off if you get 3 of the same symbol on each reel.

The probability of that is 1/3 X 1/3 X 1/3, or 1/9.

Let’s suppose the payoff for getting 3 lemons is 4 for 1.

And let’s suppose the payoff for getting 3 cherries is 3 for 1.

Finally, we’ll suppose the payoff for getting 3 oranges is even money.

  • The probability of winning 4 coins is 1/9.

  • The probability of winning 3 coins is also 1/9.

  • The probability of winning 1 coin is also 1/9.

  • The probability of winning nothing is 6/9, or 2/3.

Now let’s suppose you’re putting $1 in on every spin, and you play 9 spins, getting every possible result once.

You win 4 coins once. You win 3 coins once. You win 1 coin once. That’s a total of 8 coins you’ve won.

But you’ve inserted 9 coins into the game.

Where did the extra coin go?

In the pockets of the casino, that’s where.

By setting up the payoffs so that they’re lower than the odds of winning, the casino sets up a situation where it’s guaranteed a mathematical profit over the long run.

Of course, most modern slot machines aren’t quite this simple. They have more symbols on each reel, for one thing. For another, the probability of getting a particular symbol might be different from the probability of getting another symbol.

For example, you might have a 2/3 probability of getting a pear, and only a 1/24 probability of getting a cherry.

What happens in the long run vs. The short term?

By manipulating the payoffs and the probabilities of the symbols, the casino can guarantee that over a long period and many spins, they’ll profit.

But in the short run, a player might win a big jackpot or lose several times in a row.

That’s the nature of random events. In the short run, anything can happen. In the long run, the numbers get closer to the theoretical probability.

This is obvious when you look at it with an extreme example.

On an infinite number of spins, your average loss per spin will mirror the mathematical expectation.

The closer you get to an infinite number of spins, the closer you’ll get to the mathematical expectation.

Do slot machines cheat?

The casinos don’t need to cheat to make a healthy profit.

The slot machine designers and manufacturers don’t need to cheat to make a healthy profit.

In fact, in well-regulated jurisdictions (like nevada), games are thoroughly audited for fairness. When they’re auditing a game for fairness, one of the things they check is whether a game has a jackpot that’s impossible to win.

That’s the main concern many players have when they ask if slot machines cheat.

Does the game have jackpots that are impossible to win?

The short answer in almost every case is no, they don’t.

But you have no way of knowing what the probability of winning that jackpot is. Slot machine games have opaque odds and probabilities. The results are generated by a computer program called a random number generator (RNG).

The only people who know the exact settings for that RNG are the designers and the casino managers.

In fact, you could be playing two identical slot machines located right next to each on the casino floor and have different odds of winning. Not only is this legal, it’s common.

Does that sound like cheating?

By the strict letter of the law, it’s not.

I’d say yes. Having two games next to each other offering different odds is intentionally misleading. It’s legal, but it’s not sincere in any way.

Online slot machines are no different, except that in some cases, these games HAVE been known to cheat. But not reputable casinos and not reputable software providers.

They set up games which are impossible to win.

The reasons baffle me. You stand to make far more money in the long run if you offer an honest game.

Even an idiot can tell after a while that he’s never going to win a rigged casino game on the internet.

But otherwise smart people will continue to deposit money and wager it at a breakneck pace if they’re winning something every now and then, even if they’re showing a net loss over time.

What about video poker games?

You need to understand immediately that video poker games are NOT the same thing as slot machine games. They look similar on the surface, but the math and the gameplay couldn’t be more different. And the philosophy behind these games is different, too.

A video poker machine uses a random number generator that duplicates the odds found in a 52-card deck of cards. You know the probability of getting a specific symbol. Any specific card has a 1/52 probability of appearing.

A card of a specific suit has a ¼ probability of appearing. A card of a specific rank has a 1/13 probability of appearing.

Payback percentages and the house edge

Knowing this enables mathematicians and computer programs to calculate the actual payback percentage for these games.

What’s a payback percentage?

It’s the percentage of each bet that’s paid back to the player on average in the long run. It’s the opposite of the house edge.

On a slot machine, you have no way of calculating a game’s payback percentage. It’s impossible, because you have no way of knowing the probability of getting a specific symbol.

But on a video poker game, you can calculate all the possibilities. And since you know how much the game pays out for various combinations, you can add the expected value of each to get an overall payback percentage for the game.

And you know what’s even better than this?

The payback percentages for video poker games are significantly higher than the payback percentages on slot machines in almost every case.

Even the worst video poker game usually has a payback percentage of 95% or so. But the better games offer payback percentages in the 98%+ range. Some (rare) games have pay tables which offer a slightly positive game for the player, like 100.2%. But those numbers assume perfect strategy on your part.

But even the best slot machine games usually have a payback percentage in the 95% range. The more common games slip down into the lower 92% or so range.

Expected hourly loss rates in slot machine games vs. Video poker games

What does this mean to your bankroll?

Let’s look at how much money you can mathematically expect to lose playing 2 different games:

We’ll start with an average slot machine game with a 94% payback percentage. You’re playing for $1 per spin, and you’re making 600 spins per hour. You expect to win 94% of each bet back, which means you expect to lose 6% of each bet.

6% of $600 is $36, which is the amount the casino expects you to lose on this game on average over time.

Then we’ll consider a 9/6 jacks or better game which you’re playing with perfect strategy. The payback percentage for this game is 99.54%, which means the house edge is 0.46%.

We’ll assume you’re playing a quarter machine and betting 5 coins per hand. You’re putting a little more money into action on each bet–$1.25. Most video poker players are as fast as slot machine players; they play 600 hands per hour. That’s $750/hour in action.

But with a house edge of 0.54%, your expected loss on that kind of action is only $3.77.

That’s right.

Playing slots costs you 10 times as much as playing video poker.

Video poker offers other advantages over slots, too. One of these is the skill element. You might not want to think about what you’re doing when you’re gambling.

But if you’re anything like me, you want to be able to at least exert a little bit of control over your destiny.

In video poker, you get to do that. The decisions you make playing each hand have a direct effect on your bottom line.

Play your hands well, and you’ll be playing one of the best gambling games in the house.

Should you play slot machines at all?

This is a legitimate question. Should you play slot machines at all?

Here are some pros and cons of playing slots:

  • You can win bigger jackpots on slot machine games than any other gambling game except maybe keno. If you’re looking for a life-changing jackpot, like you’d see if you won a lotto drawing, slots are the way to go.

  • They require little in the way of attention or effort on the part of the player. This suits some temperaments just fine. Relaxing in front of the spinning reels seems like a good deal for a lot of people.

  • They’re available in an endless variety. You can find a slot machine game with any theme you can imagine. Love elvis presley? You’ll find a slot machine for it. Play dungeons & dragons when you were 12? There’s a slot for that, too. The themes and games are almost endless.

  • They offer some of the worst odds in the house. The house edge for slot machines vary widely. Some of them might offer good odds, but most of them have a house edge of between 5% and 10%. This isn’t awful. After all, roulette has a house edge of 5.26%. The problem is that slots play so fast that you can easily put more money into an action than you thought you could.

  • You can’t figure out what the odds are. I have a philosophical problem with slot machine games. No other casino game is opaque about your odds. You can calculate the house edge for any table game in the casino. You can calculate it for video poker, too. But you’re never given the information you need to figure out the house edge on a slot machine. This is unacceptable to me.

  • They’re designed to be addictive. Slot machine manufacturers spend millions doing research into what kinds of stimuli are going to put most people into the “flow” state. Flow is great if you’re interested in personal productivity at work, but if you’re playing a gambling game, it’s awful. No other casino game is as addictive as a slot machine.

Conclusion

Yes, slot machines are honest—in a manner of speaking, anyway. Casinos don’t make claims about slot machines that are blatantly untrue. If a game has a maximum jackpot of $1 million, you do have a chance of winning that much money.

What you don’t know is how likely or unlikely it is to win that amount.

Is this disingenuous on the part of the casinos?

I think it is, at least to some extent.

But all casino games have math behind them that puts the odds in the casino’s favor. That’s just the nature of the games. Slots are no different in that respect.

No matter which casino game you play, if you stick with it long enough, you’ll eventually lose all your money.

The only exceptions are certain games that can be played with advantage techniques, but that’s another subject entirely.

The only way for you to get an edge against a slot machine game is to cheat.

In most jurisdictions, cheating is blatantly illegal. You’re better off learning to play poker at an expert level, or learning how to count cards in blackjack.

Are ALL online casino's really rigged?

I often read in these forums that it's "common knowledge" casino's used "rigged" software for their games.

Now, I imagine that this might be true for a few games at certain books. But my question is, why WOULD casino's "rig" their games?

Most games are already rigged because even playing the odds perfectly gives the house a slight edge. Take blackjack for example, without advantage play the house will always have a slight edge. And advantage play is impossible in online casinos because they reshuffle after every deck. So why would online casinos even bother with cheating their software? It seems like they'll just make money in the long run from "honest" software anyways.

Again, I'm new to this, so there might be something I'm totally missing. But I'd like to hear an explanation. Thanks.

3-QUESTION
SBR TRIVIA WINNER 03/02/2020

What some might refer to as rigged is that many casinos claim to have a verified random number generator (RNG) that chooses the next card in blackjack or video poker or a slot reel or the die in craps. It can be argued that a computer cannot truly produce an actual random number.

As far as being rigged, there are plenty of rouge casino software providers out there that can intentionally or unintentionally manipulate the software to their advantage quite easily. Take for example the recent BLR casino clusterfuk that hit 5dimes and legends.
Http://www.Sportsbookreview.Com/forum/sportsbook. Are-found.Html
BLR had an incentive to rig the software because they received a cut of the profits. The more it took, the more they got paid and the sportsbook profited. It usually takes months or years for a player to prove the software is crooked. Did 5dimes or legends offer any kickback to the players for screwing them, HELL NO. Therefore I guess it pays to put out crooked software, screw over the unsuspecting players, collect the rewards for the software provider and sportsbook and run like hell. What are they going to do? Not a damn thing.

Here is some "legitimate" rigging. Look at the pay tables for some of the games in the SBR casino (IE let it ride, vpdeuces) now go and take a look at the same exact games by the same exact software provider at heritage, bet islands, greek.
Payout for a royal flush at let it ride
SBR 1000-1 (industry standard)
heritage 200-1
betislands 200-1
greek 200-1

It is obvious these books have the software tuned to the lowest possible payouts.

Play at your own risk, some software is more reputable than others but even the reputable software can be set to a certain payout percentage, it could be 98% or 82% who knows.

And to answer your question as to why, it is called GREED.

Are online casinos fair or rigged?

One of the most common concerns about both online casinos is whether the games are fair.

If a player’s suspicion that a casino is being unfair by reducing the odds of them winning, then a lot of casinos would be dead in the water. That said, it’s not a secret that over a long session, the house edge will eventually rear its head. The longer you’re playing for, the more likely the casino is going to become profitable.

So let’s dig a little deeper into this topic.

Do online casinos rig their games?

You might be playing online casino games with the sole goal of winning some cash. But the aim of the casino is to make a nice profit from people who enjoy online gambling. There are laws and standards in place that aim to make sure the online casino sites operate with fairness.

Every once in a while, a player suspects their casino, or the games are rigged. There are a couple of theories raised by gamblers as to how. Things like if you play for a long period of time you’ll have to win big. Or maybe they’ll say that online casinos always entice new people to sign up using juicy jackpots, but they never drop.

People often ask if online poker is rigged as well as many of the other games available online.

The one main complaint heard all the time is that gamblers simply don’t win. There is a house edge, we know this, but it’s impossible that a player will NEVER win, or the casino would go out of business.

Random number generators

Casino games rely on random number generators within their games. So every single turn is unique and random and has the same odds as your previous or next bet, yours and anyone else’s playing that same game.

You have to remember that luck is the bottom line in casino games. You have to factor you in your own decisions when you’re playing table games, particularly.

Is the site rigged, or are you a bad player?

How are online casinos fair and trustworthy?

Don’t let anyone fool you, not every single online casino on the internet is safe or legitimate. You’re advised to look for signs that a site is trustworthy. If you suspect online slots are rigged or other games you’re playing aren’t fair, you can simply stop playing and move to another site.

When a site applies for a gambling license it has to undergo rigorous scrutiny and testing by the governing bodies. They’re then constantly monitored and audited for assurance that players are being treated fairly.

Licensing and regulation

As they’re always dealing with these authorities and answering to the government, there are regulations to make sure they’re being fair.

Trust value. If an online casino is on gamblingmetropolis then you’re guaranteed that site is trustworthy. Each is tested to ensure they’re performing against the highest standards. They are proven to be dependable and reliable.

Independent testing: the great news for you, the player, is that every online casino goes through meticulous testing to ensure it’s fair. All the casino games use a random number generator which ensures every single bet is unique and has the same odds as the next one.

How to spot if an online casino is safe

Don’t just find a casino and sign up without looking over the site first. If you’re going to hand over your personal and financial data you owe it to yourself to make sure the site you’re using can be trusted with it.

You can trust sites licensed by the UK gambling commission and the malta gaming authority. They insist on restrictions meaning every player has exactly the same chances of winning.

One such requirement to ensure this is the use of an RNG, as well as other security measures. They’re all in place before the casino is even open for business, or has even added its first game to the site! You’ll find information in the footer of the site if they’re licensed by either of these two or generally if it has any awards or recognitions.

Online reviews and testimonials

You can also read reviews online of the particular casino you’re looking to use. See what other people have said about their experiences with the games, and the site as a whole. If you don’t look into a casino in detail, you’re throwing your financial and personal information at them ignorantly. It’s better to check it out first.

Have a look at the casino site’s security policy and terms and conditions. Know what could happen to your data once you’re signed up. Are they giving it to third parties?

Once you’ve done all this homework you should know without a doubt if the online casino you’ve chosen is secure. It’s also worth looking at their game selections as well as bonus programs.

Summary

On the whole, the vast majority of online casinos you play at will not be rigged. Most of the time it’s just bad luck or poor technique which stops you from winnings. However, if you genuinely suspect that a site isn’t being fair, simply stop playing and move on to another.

Do you want a huge selection of games? Are they low or high variance? Just be sensible. Read everything. Know beyond doubt before you deposit any money into an online casino site that they are trustworthy and fair.

Are online casinos fair or are they rigged?

One of the biggest concerns that many online casino players experience when playing at online casinos or else visiting a brick and mortar casino, is whether the casino or the casino games like slots and blackjack they are playing function in a fair manner.

If players suss that a casino is being disadvantageous by reducing any chances of winning, then many casinos would have closed by now. That being said, we know too well that over a lengthy period of time, the house edge comes to play. The longer you play, the more likely the casino will make a profit.

Let’s delve deeper into the subject.

Are online casinos rigged?

Rigged Online Casinos: Dispelling a Gambling Myth, are internet casinos rigged.

While you might be in it with the aim of winning some money, online casinos’ main goal is to make a neat profit from customers who love to gamble online. Laws and regulations are in place with the aim of making sure that online casinos operate in a fair and legal manner.

Every now and again, a gambler suspects that casino games or the casino itself is rigged. There are other theories being raised by gamblers. Such as if you play for longer periods of time you will strike it lucky or perhaps, that casinos are constantly trying to lure new players with enticing jackpots but without dropping.

However, the one major complaint that we hear all the time is that players can never win. While there is the house edge (aka house advantage) in place, it is impossible that players never win as otherwise casinos would go bust.

Since casino games apply random number generators to their casino games, every spin or bet is random and has the same odds as your previous or future bets. You need to keep in mind that luck plays an important role in casinos games and that you also need to take account of your own bad decisions especially when you are playing table games.

Your bad decisions can cause you loss after loss.

How are online casinos fair and trustworthy?

We are definitely not implying that all online casinos out there are safe and trustworthy. On the contrary, you should always look out for signs that a casino is indeed secure and trustworthy.

When a casino applies for a gambling license, it undergoes several tests and scrutiny by licensing bodies. They are in fact, constantly being monitored and audited to make sure that players are not treated unfairly in any way, manner, or form.

Since they are constantly dealing with gambling authorities and the government, there are rules and regulations in place to ensure fairness.

Independent testing: the good news for you as a player is that each online casino undergoes rigorous testing to ensure that it is just. All casino games use the service of a random number generator that ensures that each bet is independent from the other and that they essentially carry the same odds as the next one.

Trust value: if an online casino is listed on gamblingmetropolis, you can rest assured that it is trustworthy. We try and test each online casino we promote to ensure that they are of the highest standards. If it is here, it means it is dependable and reliable.

How to know if an online casino is safe?

Rigged Online Casinos: Dispelling a Gambling Myth, are internet casinos rigged.

Don’t just sign up to any old online casino. If you are going to part from your personal and financial information, you want to make sure that it is trustworthy and secure.

For starters, look for casinos that are licensed by leading jurisdictions, such as malta, gibraltar and the united kingdom. There is a reason for this. Such gaming jurisdictions enforce upon casinos specific gaming requirements to make sure that each player has the same chance.

One of these gaming requirements is the RNG amongst many other security features. These are all in place before the casino ever goes live or adds its first slot game. Look towards the bottom of your online casino’s page to see if one of the aforementioned reputable organisations is listed, or if it has received any e-gaming awards from renowned organisations.

Another way to know if an online casino is safe, is to read casino reviews online and to see what other players have said about their experience. Remember, that if you don’t research the casino properly, you will be gambling away your personal and financial information, so it’s best to run your research beforehand.

Additionally, go over the casino’s security policies and read the terms and conditions of casinos, to see what would happen to your personal information once you have signed up. Are they passing information to any third parties?

After you have done all your research and feel safe in the knowledge that the online casino of your choice is secure, it might be worth looking into their game selection as well as bonus structure. Do you want to sit down to play at a casino with a very limited selection of games? Are the games of low or high variance?
